Our International Shipping Team helps you with:
Preparing your shipment
In every country, shipping regulations vary, and many shippers expect you, as the sender, to navigate lists of prohibited items – as well as size and weight restrictions – independently.
Our team works with you to ensure your products meet international law and customs standards, guiding you through the process.
Obtaining the correct information from your customer
Shipping internationally requires more documentation compared to domestic shipping. While you may have your own VAT and EORI numbers organised, when shipping to another business, you will also need to obtain these numbers and other required information from your customer.
Our International Shipping Team helps ensure that when providing international shipping documents (such as commercial invoices and power of attorneys), we include all relevant and accurate contact information for the receiver. This meticulous approach helps ensure that your goods clear customs smoothly and without delays.
Payment of duties, taxes and other fees when shipping internationally
When shipping within Europe or internationally, as your products cross borders, they may incur Duties, Taxes, and Fees, including freight and insurance costs. Either you, as the shipper, or your customer will be responsible for these payments. When you book with us, we ensure that these INCO terms are agreed upon beforehand.
If you, as the supplier (shipper), are responsible for the costs, the INCO term is called Delivery Duty Paid (DDP). This payment is invoiced after delivery. The benefit of using DDP is that your customer has full transparency of costs during the buying process.
If the customer (consignee) is responsible for the costs, then this INCO term is called Delivery At Place (DAP), which means the receiver will need to pay. Payment can be made on delivery or pre-paid online.
Getting your paperwork in order
When shipping from the UK to Europe or a non-European country, it is necessary to complete a commercial invoice. Accurate completion of this mandatory document is crucial as it provides specific information about your shipment and helps prevent delays at borders. Upon producing your shipping label, we ensure that your commercial invoice is thoroughly checked and that all required documentation is included with your consignment.
Additional documentation may be required for your shipment, depending on the item or product being exported. Certain countries have specific local regulations that require additional documents for your items to clear customs smoothly.
A Certificate of Origin (CO) is an essential international trade document that certifies goods in a shipment are wholly obtained, produced, manufactured, or processed in a specific stated country. Overseas buyers often request a CO for customs clearance, managing payments, and obtaining import tariff concessions.
Selection of your commodity code
A commodity code or ‘Tariff Code’ is used by customs authorities to classify the product being shipped. This code helps customs assess duties, VAT, and taxes applicable to the shipment. We collaborate with you to ensure the correct code is applied to your shipment, preventing fines or delays.
Managing your customs clearance
Customs clearance brokers – whether for exports, imports, or transit – operate in every country to facilitate the movement of approved goods. A broker negotiates fixed fees and taxes with the country’s Inland Revenue, ensures items are approved and cleared at ports and borders, and expedites their arrival at their destination with minimal delay.
Our International Shipping Team collaborates closely with our customs clearance partners to ensure comprehensive coverage of your goods from collection to delivery, handling every aspect in between.
